Michael Alstad is a founding member of Year Zero One (YZO), an organisation that produces and presents electronic media art through networked exhibitions and site-responsive projects in public space.  Michael has conceptualised, developed, curated and designed numerous projects under the YZO banner in the past decade, including the first urban screen project in Canada, early mobile locative media projects that predated smartphone technology and the first exhibition of interactive electronic art at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport. Michael was also a founding member of  Symbiosis, an artist collective that mounted several site-specific projects in Toronto throughout the 90’s.

Michael has developed and curated projects in affiliation with the Textile Museum of Canada, InterAccess Electronic Media Arts Centre, Subtle Technologies, The Virtual Museums of Canada/Gallery TPW and the McLuhan Program in Culture & Technology.
