trans_plant
Thirty artists from Germany, Holland, Italy, Canada and Russia exhibited site specific work at the Helden der Arbeit exhibition in a former industrial site on the banks of the River Spree in Berlin in 2002.
Michael Alstad's trans_plant is a site-specific installation in an abandoned cable factory that consists of a series of 'living sculptures' which evoke concepts of utopian architecture, the dichotomy between nature/industry and the suggestion of convergence as a symbol of environmental sustainability.
ICH LIEBE DICH (I LOVE YOU TOO) is a piece that responds to graffiti on a concrete bank on the River Spree beside the Oberschöneweide industrial site. Alstad painted "I love you too" on the left bank of the river in response to the German words on the right bank "ich liebe dich" (i love you).
